The Power of Connection
Horses have a remarkable way of inviting us to slow down, become present, and connect.

As highly aware and responsive animals, horses communicate largely through body language and respond to what is happening around them in the moment. Working alongside them can create meaningful opportunities to explore trust, communication, emotional awareness, confidence, boundaries, relationships, and personal growth.
At Kinship Equine Therapy, horses are not tools. They are valued partners in experiences designed to support connection, learning, reflection, and healing.
What makes working with horses different.
Present & Aware
Horses live in the present moment and are highly attentive to their surroundings. Interacting with them encourages participants to become more aware of their own body language, emotions, communication, and responses. This creates opportunities for reflection and self-awareness in a way that can feel very different from a traditional indoor setting.
Communication Beyond Words
Horses respond to body language, movement, energy, consistency, and the environment around them. Because communication with a horse does not depend primarily on words, participants can explore how they communicate, establish boundaries, build trust, and develop relationships through hands-on experience.
Building Trust Through Relationship
Trust with a horse develops over time through patience, consistency, communication, and mutual respect. These interactions can create meaningful opportunities to explore relationships, healthy boundaries, confidence, empathy, problem-solving, and connection.
Learning Through Experience
Equine-assisted learning is experiential. Instead of only talking about a concept, participants have opportunities to experience, practice, reflect, and learn through interaction with horses and the equine environment. Activities can support the development of skills such as communication, decision-making, problem-solving, self-awareness, confidence, leadership, relationship-building, and coping with emotions and stress.
You Don't Have to Ride to Benefit
Many meaningful equine-assisted experiences take place entirely on the ground. Depending on the service and participant's goals, activities may include observing horses, grooming, leading, relationship-building exercises, problem-solving activities, experiential learning, and guided reflection. No previous horse experience is necessary.
Partners in the Process
At Kinship, the well-being of our horses matters. We believe meaningful equine-assisted work should respect both the person and the horse. Our horses are individuals with their own personalities, preferences, boundaries, and ways of interacting. Participants are encouraged to develop relationships with horses based on awareness, respect, communication, and trust.
Understanding Equine-Assisted Services
"Equine-assisted services" is a broad term describing different professional services that incorporate horses to benefit people.
At Kinship, experiences may include mental health services in which qualified behavioral health professionals incorporate horses into treatment, as well as non-therapy equine-assisted learning and personal-growth experiences.
The specific approach depends on the participant, the program, and the goals of the service.
Serving Las Vegas & Northern New Mexico
Kinship offers equine-assisted services and experiential learning with horses from our home in Las Vegas, New Mexico, welcoming participants from across Northern New Mexico. No horse experience is required to begin.

Each horse brings something of their own.
Just as people are different, so are our horses. Participants may find themselves drawn to a particular horse or discover that a horse's personality offers exactly the kind of interaction they need in that moment.
That relationship — built on awareness, respect, communication, and trust — is one of the things that makes this work so meaningful.
Meet the HerdExperience the Connection
